Finding your way around

The sidebar and its groups, the command palette, keyboard shortcuts, the theme, and opening issues in a panel or as a full page.

Everything is reached from the sidebar on the left, the bar across the top, and the command palette. Learning a few keyboard shortcuts makes moving around much faster.

The sidebar

The sidebar groups pages by what you are doing. It only shows pages your role and your workspace's plan give you.

  • Home, Inbox and Chat at the top: your dashboards, your notifications and team chat.
  • Work: Issues, Triage, Active sprint (the board) and Calendar.
  • Progress: Goals, Initiatives, Workload, Roadmap, Insights and Report Builder.
  • Projects: every project you can see, plus All projects. The + next to the heading creates a project, if you are allowed to.
  • Workspace: Members, Docs, Mind maps, Whiteboards, Forms, Files, Settings and, for administrators, Admin.

The Inbox shows your unread count, Triage shows how many issues are waiting, and Issues shows the total.

Collapse and expand

  • Click a group heading such as Work to fold it away. A folded group shows how many pages it holds.
  • Choose Collapse at the bottom of the sidebar, or the sidebar button at the left of the top bar, to shrink it to icons only. Your choice is remembered.
  • On a phone, the sidebar is hidden. Open it with the menu button at the top left.

The top bar

  • The page you are on is shown next to the app name.
  • Search or jump to… opens the command palette.
  • A timer chip appears while you have a time-tracking timer running.
  • The bell opens your Inbox. A dot means you have unread notifications.
  • The moon or sun button switches between dark and light themes.
  • Your avatar opens a menu with Profile, Settings, Notifications, Switch workspace (if you are in more than one) and Sign out.

The command palette

Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux), or /, or click the search box. Then start typing:

  • Issues, Docs and Projects that match what you typed.
  • An issue key, such as PLT-42, to jump straight to that issue.
  • Actions: New issue, every Go to … page, and switching theme.
  • Recent: the places you opened from the palette lately.

With an issue open, the palette also offers actions on it: Assign to me, Move to a status, Set priority, Copy link and Copy key. Use the arrow keys and Enter to choose.

Keyboard shortcuts

Press ? to see this list in the app. Shortcuts do nothing while you are typing in a field.

  • C: create an issue.
  • / or ⌘K: open the command palette.
  • G then H: Home. G I: Issues. G B: Board. G R: Roadmap (for the project you are in, or your first project).
  • G D: Docs. G W: Whiteboards. G C: Chat. G M: Members. G S: Settings.
  • Esc: close the shortcuts overlay.
For two-key shortcuts, press G, let go, then press the second key within a second.

Issues open in a side panel

When you click an issue in a list or on a board, it opens in a panel that slides in over the page, so you keep your place. Its address changes to that issue's own link, which you can copy and share.

  • Choose Open as full page (the expand icon at the top of the panel) to see the issue on its own page.
  • Opening an issue link directly, or refreshing the page while the panel is open, also shows the full page.

Inside a project

Opening a project shows its own tabs: Overview, Issues, Backlog, Board, Roadmap, Calendar, Workload, Burndown, Goals, Releases, Milestones, Insights, Activity and Team. People who can edit the project also see Schemes and Settings.
