Notifications and the Inbox
What notifies you, how to work through the Inbox, and how to choose instant email, a digest or no email for each kind.
Inbox
The Inbox collects everything that needs your attention: issues assigned to you, mentions, comments and status changes on work you follow. You decide, for each kind, whether it appears in the Inbox and how it reaches your email.
What notifies you
- Assignments: someone assigns an issue to you, on its own or in a bulk change.
- Mentions: someone @mentions you in a comment.
- Comments: a new comment on an issue you are assigned to, reported, or watch.
- Status changes: an issue you are assigned to, reported, or watch moves to another status.
- New records: confirmations such as an issue you created, or being added as a watcher.
- Invites: invitations to a workspace or project.
You are never notified about your own changes.
Watching an issue
You automatically watch the issues you create. To follow any other issue, choose the eye button on it. The number beside it is how many people are watching, and hovering over it shows who. Choose it again to stop watching.
Work through the Inbox
- Open Inbox in the sidebar, or the bell in the top bar.
- Use the tabs to narrow the list: All, Unread, Mentions, Assigned and Reviews (requests for your approval).
- Click a notification to read it. That marks it read. Use the button beside it to open the issue.
- Hover a row to Mark read, Mark unread or Delete it.
- Mark all read clears the tab you are on.
Choose what reaches you
Open Settings → Notifications, or Preferences in the Inbox. For each kind of notification there are two choices:
- The switch: whether it appears in your Inbox at all.
- Email: Email instantly, Daily digest, Weekly digest or No email.
Each choice saves as soon as you make it.
Quiet hours
In Settings → Notifications, turn on Quiet hours and set the start and end times. Emails that would arrive during those hours are held and sent when they end. The times use the timezone in your profile.
Notifications on your phone
With the mobile app installed and signed in, you get push notifications for the kinds set to Email instantly. Kinds set to a digest or to no email do not send pushes. Some pushes have buttons, so you can reply to a mention or pick up an assignment from the lock screen.
Slack and Teams
Sending notifications to Slack or Microsoft Teams is set up once for the whole workspace, not per person. See Notification channels.
