Welcome
The core ideas: workspaces, projects, issues, sprints and boards. Plus a map of everything the app does.
Forgeboard is where a team plans, tracks and ships its work. You break work into issues, group them into projects, plan them in sprints, follow them across a board and see how it is going in reports. This page explains the ideas everything else is built on and points you to the article for each part.
The core ideas
- Workspace. Your organization's own space: its members, projects, settings and plan. Everything you see belongs to one workspace. If you are a member of several, you can switch between them.
- Project. A body of work with its own team, board, backlog, sprints and releases. Each project has a short key, such as PLT, and every issue in it is numbered from that key (PLT-1, PLT-2, …).
- Issue. One piece of work: an epic, story, task or bug, or any other tracker your workspace defines. An issue has a status, an assignee, a priority, comments, attachments and a history.
- Status and workflow. The steps an issue moves through, such as Todo, In progress, Review and Done. A workflow defines which statuses a project uses, and the board's columns come from them.
- Sprint. A fixed stretch of time with a planned set of issues. You plan it from the backlog, run it on the board, and close it with a retrospective.
- Board and backlog. The board shows the work in progress as columns. The backlog is the ranked list of everything not yet in a sprint.
- Roles. Each member has a role (Owner, Admin, Member, Guest and others) that decides what they can see and change.
Track the work
- Issues: what an issue holds and how the list works.
- Creating issues, and searching and filtering them.
- Sub-issues and links between issues.
- Triage: review incoming issues before they reach the board.
- Importing issues from another tool.
Plan and deliver
Measure and share
- Insights and dashboards, including DORA metrics.
- The report builder and report schedules.
- Docs, whiteboards, mind maps, forms and team chat.
Set it up
Where to start
- Create a workspace, or accept the invitation a colleague sent you.
- Read Finding your way around to learn the sidebar and shortcuts.
- Create a project, then your first issue.
What you see depends on your role and on your workspace's plan. If something in this Guide is missing for you, ask a workspace Owner or Admin.
