Project templates
Start new projects from a built-in setup or from how one of your own projects is configured.
Settings → Project templates
A project template is a way to start a new project already set up: its trackers, workflows, labels, Definition of Done, issue templates and board. Use a built-in one, or save how one of your own projects works and reuse it.
Built-in templates
- Scrum — epics, stories, tasks and bugs, with a Definition of Done that warns before an issue closes.
- Kanban — continuous flow, with work-in-progress limits on the in-progress and review columns.
- Bug tracking — bugs and tasks; new reports wait in triage until someone accepts them, and arrive at high priority.
Save a project as a template
- Open the project and choose Settings in its header.
- Scroll to Save as template.
- Give it a Template name and, optionally, a Description saying when to use it.
- Choose Save as template.
It records the project's settings, the trackers, priorities and custom fields switched on, its workflows, Definition of Done, labels, issue templates and board. Issues, sprints and people are not copied.
Start a project from a template
When creating a project, choose a template under Start from (or leave Blank project). The template is stored by name, so it keeps working after the original project is renamed or deleted. Anything it names that the workspace no longer has — a tracker, a workflow, a custom field — is skipped.
Manage templates
Settings → Project templates lists the built-in templates (marked built in) and the ones your workspace saved. Delete a saved one with the bin icon; projects already started from it keep their setup. Built-in templates cannot be deleted.
